Thrive Magazine

For my Typography 3 studio, I designed a publication about student-athlete mental health in Division 1 sports.

Thrive Magazine’s goal is to shed light on the number of mental health issues that these student-athletes face and to help erase the stigma around mental health in athletics.

Word Mark

Brand Identity

I wanted the design of the magazine to reflect the feeling of anxiety and stress that these athletes go through. I did this by stretching out letterforms and by causing some baseline shifts in the paragraphs. I also chose a dark black and white color pallet along with yellow to symbolize hope in darkness.

Cover and Spreads

I wanted the wordmark to reflect a sense of calmness to balance out all of the tension in the magazine. I did this by using a lot of organic curves and by using a humanistic sans-serif typeface. I decided on a sans serif to allow the magazine to be more inclusive to all readers.
